Currently, our main focus is to promote and support the provision of secure ‘off street’ bicycle parking spaces in buildings, as soon required in the EU by the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive:
One million additional bike parking spaces in 2027:
By 2027, non-residential buildings need to offer secure bike parking in addition to already existing car parking spaces. The EPBD* mandates that both existing and new non-residential buildings (offices, shopping centres, universities, hospitals ..) add bike parking spots. We estimate that this will create 1-2 million additional bike parking spaces in the EU. While this is a major opportunity to support cycling and sustainable mobility, it also poses challenges to real estate owners and tenants. a.bike’s main mission is to help with the transition: We explain national transposition of the new bike parking rules, and operate a marketplace for providers and buyers of new bike parking spaces.

Bike theft matters.
In the EU alone, 30 million bikes were stolen in the last ten years. Besides the financial damage close to one billion Euros, victims often stop cycling and millions of Europeans do not cycle at all, or cycle less because they fear theft. Theft is a major contribution to transport poverty.
